Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos shows new pieces for Phillips Auction House in London. Her material led art is crafted using enormous fabric looms. Intensive colours, scale and explosive tactility are characteristic for her art. She is combining unusual materials and techniques like crochet and lace with sculpturing.
Vasconcelos sculptures and installations “explore collective identity and consumer culture, using the banality of everyday objects to express often ironic themes and the politics of feminism”.
