The Kamppi Chapel of Silence is a part of the 2012 World Design Capital programme. The chapel offers a place for quiet meditation and occasionally for conversation with personnel from Helsinki’s congregations and the Social Services Department.
The interior is warm and enclosed from the surrounding urban life. The curved wooden structure is like a public art sculpture in one of the busiest traffic hot-spots. It is extremely centrally located.
This cave like form without windows or connection to the world outside gives immediately an illusion of being transformed to another place. It cuts off any distractions from the busy life outside the walls and gives a feeling of being protected.
