This year’s pavilion follows on the footsteps of last year’s simple style and circular shape of the construction. However, the mood is more uplifting.
Themes
Nature inspired
The architect Lina Ghotmeh says she wanted the pavilion to be in harmony with the surrounding park. The modest low building with a wooden structure has a minimal carbon footprint.
The shape of the roof is like a tree canopy that offers shade from the sun. Walls are CNC-cut with abstract leaf patterns to let light and wind come through like leaves covering the sky in the forest.
À Table
The pavilion is named after the French word to sit down together to eat, and the idea is sharing a meal together. For the first time, pavilion has a complete menu influenced by the architect. This will feature “locally sourced produce with a Mediterranean feel”, designed to encourage visitors to think about how they consume – both food and material resources.
The focus for the visitor is the internal space. You don’t see much what is happening outside, so the space is all about just sitting on the communal table. As a pavilion this seems too simple, and not offering enough variety to the visitor.
Materials and mood
The colour of reddish oak looks very warm and striking in the sunshine. It is more unusual material compared to what has been used in previous pavilions. (Fairly dark shade however looks already dirty on the floor after just few days of the opening).
