New Mondrian Hotel by Tom Dixon

Mondrian by Tom Dixon

Brand new luxury boutique hotel for Mondrian chain opened recently in central London by the Thames. Designed by Tom Dixon and his Design Research Studio it has strong identity and distinctive references to locality.

The hotel is situated in a 70’s building by American architect Warren Platner. The design has used maritime history of the location by Thames as inspiration. It is now called Sea Container according to an office, that used to exist in the building. Throughout the interiors it is easy to spot these references.

Tom Dixon‘s signature style is also present in e.g. using masculine, British classic furniture combined with industrial style lighting that he is also known for.

The colour scale is very warm and dark. Trendy textiles like velvet is used in upholstery. All in all it is a quirky mix of styles in a 70’s building. Dixon manages to capture a feeling of being on a cruise ship, however it might not be your thing.
