In the Making at London Design Museum is curated by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby from the critically acclaimed design studio Barber Osgerby. The exhibition is focusing on manufacturing processes revealing the ‘secret life’ of cricket bats, felt hats, shoes, boots, marbles, light bulbs, whistles, pencils, coins, horns, lenses and Olympic torches. The Great Recovery by RSA

RSA 100% Design 2012 London3The Royal Society of Arts Great Recovery programme, which looks at ways designers and manufacturers can reduce product waste by promoting fixing, recycling and remaking products. The Great Recovery, launched in September 2012, is building new networks to explore the issues, investigate innovation gaps and incubate new partnerships. A programme of practical workshops and events support a new competition led by the Technology Strategy Board, who are investing £1.25million into new design and business partnerships that re-think products, components and systems that ‘close the loop’. ‘Tenda’ is a  series of textile lamps launching at the London Design Festival as a result of Benjamin Hubert’s materials driven research. ‘Tenda’ Italian for tent is comprised of materials from a diverse mix of industries: Fibre glass rods from the kite manufacturing industry, Lycra from the sports industry, stretch mesh from the underwear industry and a construction technique from the tent industry.
